In my practice we believe that healthy women are the hub of a healthy world, so of course I couldn’t agree more with Ms. Wargo’s quote above. As a graduate of an all women’s college, Mount Holyoke, I know first-hand the value that a supportive single sex education can provide in empowering young women. So I was delighted recently to be asked to speak at a Career Mentoring event for high school girls from Hockaday, a college preparatory day and boarding school located in Dallas.
When ladies have the ability to support and learn from each other, the effect is powerful. For my part, I used to my time with these students to answer their questions about the difficulties and rewards of medical school, midwifery training and a typical day in a doctor’s working life. It was refreshing to see these inquisitive young ladies leaning in to their futures and I’m happy to have had the opportunity to support them.
