Hormone & Menstrual Cycle Health
Do you suspect that your menstrual cycle is abnormal or that your hormones are out of balance? Our menstrual cycles are one reflection of overall health and wellbeing. Hormones such as progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, & thyroid greatly impact a woman’s wellness and sense of well-being.
Hormone and menstrual cycle health can impact PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, our ability to conceive, our fertility, as well as the perimenopause and menopause experience. Hormone imbalances are often intertwined with autoimmune diseases, mood disorders, digestive problems, and brain health.
These are some of the common symptoms that may be connected to menstrual cycle and hormone imbalances:
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Missed periods (lack of ovulation)
- Irregular periods (infrequent ovulation)
- Noticeable mood changes before period (your bleed)
- Acne
- Low sex drive, low sexual desire, low libido
- Not being able to conceive
- Frequent miscarriages
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Painful menstrual cycles
Conventionally, pain medications are often recommended for menstrual pain; the birth control pill is frequently recommended as the treatment for female hormone imbalances including painful menstrual cycles, abnormal bleeding, mood imbalances such as PMS, and abnormal menstrual cycles. For some women the birth control pill isn’t the right solution or is an incomplete solution. For example, a woman who has painful menstrual cycles (recurrent, crampy, lower abdominal occurring during menses) may want to take 3-6 months to work with a naturopathic doctor to learn self-care approaches to pain relief and pain reduction.
We offer a variety of tools beyond the mainstream approaches that may help rebalance hormone and menstrual cycle health
Tools

Botanical Medicine & Supplements
Plants have been used as medicine since antiquity. Many pharmaceuticals attempt to imitate plant actions in a chemically altered (therefore patentable) form.

Environmental Medicine & Detoxification
Our health and that of our children depends on the health of the environment. Environmental medicine examines the relationship between the environment and human health, and the role of the environment in causing or mediating disease.

Nutrition & Gut Health
One of the simplest (and most delicious) steps we can take towards living healthier lives is by enjoying clean, organic, seasonal, local food with those we love.

Movement
In today’s society, we tend to eat more and move less. Dr. Naumes encourages all clients to play – hike? walk? dance? – outside in the fresh air daily.

Stress Modification Techniques
In today’s society, we are stressed. Holistic Wellness encourages all clients to practice stress modification techniques such as hypnosis, breath-work, visualization, biofeedback, yoga, evidence-based therapy/counseling, and meditation.
